Joomla - Out of the Box Once installed, Joomla allows you to quickly create a basic CMS website, while giving you the ability to add to this over a period of time. Statistics are gathered showing the number of hits so you can target your actions based on what your visitors are interested in (or not!!).

Besides the basic items you need to get you CMS site up and running, the following Extensions are available:

* Banner Manager – manage Banner Adverts and hit statistics

* Contact – a simple Contact form

* Headlines – Control Headlines displayed usually on the main page.

* Links – allowing you to collect, categorise and display your favourite links

* Poll – creation of online Polls

* RSS Feed – allows others to Subscribe through RSS to your website updates

* Search – Search tool for visitors to search your website

* Who’s Online – allows you to see how many visitors and registered users are online.

Joomla – Now you’re online One of the biggest advantages with a CMS system is the ease with which you can update the content of your website. You are no longer at the beck and call of a web developers schedule and you don’t need to pay for each update.

Templates

Joomla! templates are a method of easily defining the layout of your website. Through the Joomla! interface it is easy to install a new template and test it with only a few clicks. There are a multitude of free templates on the Web and generators to build your own versions. Further Development There are numerous Extensions available for use with Joomla! websites. Many of these are free, but all are simple to install and integrate.

Through the Joomla installer, it is a simple matter of selecting a Zipped file and selecting Install to load and make the Extension available. Extensions range from interactive event calendars, forums, chat, to Google Map plugins, Community Builders and Real Time Shopping Cart Solutions.

Technical

Joomla! uses PHP, CSS, Javascript and XHTML along with a MySql database and it is constructed in such a way that it adheres to W3C Validation and CSS Validation Standards.

This increases the cross-browser compatibility and provides a consistent colour, font, and look and feel to your website.
